Mixed Tapes!

Amongst the jam-packed-fun-filled days of our workshop this week, my new music Tuesday slipped past me! And I have a really infectious one too...Cut // Copy. This disc is D-O-P-E. Punch Brothers
Let it be known that I am a Chris Thile fanboy. Let it also be known that I am not even one iota ashamed of this.

Naturally I was kinda bummed when Nickel Creek announced they were breaking up but Chris Thile has risen from the ashes of Nickel Creek genius and formed Punch Brothers (he's the John Mayer of the Bluegrass world, except 20 times more genius than Mayer). WARNING: Most of you will probably not like this UNLESS you already like NueGrass. If you want to be converted to NueGrass, the gateway drug for that is Nickel Creek, which Chris Thile (now 27) fronted since 1989.

The Deceiver
Musical genius comes to mind when I listen to Chris Thile's craft. Over the past decade he's fronted Nickel Creek with his deft mandolin and equally matched voice. Usually known for his NuGrass chops, The Deceiver is a departure into acoustic/indie rock...and off beat timing as well. He plays every instrument on this solo project...that's right, every instrument. It's quite impressive once you hear the album.
Weezer
The other day I discovered this new band called Weezer [...crickets...chirping...].
Wouldn't that be funny if that was really the case? I only bring them up now because they'll be releasing their third self titled album this summer (it's already being referred to as the Red Album). I owned their meager two album discography back in high school and then Cuomo and Co. decided to take a break for four years. They fell off my radar but I've recently picked them back up again...randomly soliciting friends via Twitter for the mp3 files I'd previously owned. By the way, thank you Michelle Moore ;) Visit her blog and get to know her a little.
So, in gearing up for the Red Album release, get re-acquainted with your old Weezer...it'll take you back to the days in high school when you were in a punk band that tried too hard to sound like Blink 182.

I know it's not Tuesday so I shouldn't be blogging about music but I missed a Tuesday a couple of weeks ago so I'll make up for it here. You can buy it all at Amazon mp3...the record labels are still hatin' on Steve Jobs so it's not DRM-free over there at iTunes.

For the sake of not being cliche, I'm not even going to dabble in the reality that it is April Fool's Day. Moving on...
As a huge fan of The Fugees in the late 90's, I've been groovin' to Wyclef Jean's latest offering in which he infuses hip-hop into every genre he can get his hands on, particularly reggae. His words are full of conviction and his scope multicultural. Collaborations with some really talented vocalists like Norah Jones and Paul Simon make this album really enjoyable and diverse. Listen to it all the way through and enjoy!
